I sensori di temperatura a termistore a coefficiente di temperatura positivo (PTC) sono dispositivi che presentano un aumento della resistenza in risposta a un aumento della temperatura. I termistori producono un segnale di uscita relativamente grande e facile da misurare rispetto a molti altri tipi di sensori di temperatura, anche se le loro caratteristiche tendono a essere meno stabili e meno idonee per misurazioni di temperatura precise. I termistori PTC, in particolare, sono spesso adattati per applicazioni di rilevamento di sovratemperatura e mostrano in genere un rapporto temperatura-resistenza decisamente non lineare che li rende utili per il rilevamento di una condizione di temperatura "alta" imprecisa, inadatta per misurazioni accurate.
