I transistor a effetto di campo a giunzione (JFET) sono dispositivi utilizzati come interruttori a controllo elettronico, amplificatori o resistori controllati in tensione. Una differenza di potenziale della corretta polarità applicata tra i terminali gate e source aumenta la resistenza al flusso di corrente, il che significa che nel canale tra i terminali source e drain passa meno corrente. Grazie alla carica che attraversa il canale semiconduttivo tra i terminali source e drain, i JFET non hanno bisogno di una corrente di polarizzazione.
