I latch sono dispositivi di memoria digitali elementari simili ai flip-flop, ma diversi in quanto lo stato logico mantenuto può cambiare in qualsiasi momento quando un segnale di abilitazione latch (o simile) è in uno stato logico valido. I latch descritti come "trasparenti" consentono inoltre alle uscite del dispositivo di rispecchiare lo stato corrente degli ingressi mentre il segnale di abilitazione del latch è valido, invece di cambiare stato solo quando lo stato mantenuto è stato fissato.
