I buffer logici, i driver, i ricevitori e i transceiver consentono l'accesso isolato ai segnali logici provenienti da un circuito per utilizzarli in un altro circuito. I buffer passano il loro segnale d'ingresso, invariato o invertito, alla loro uscita e possono essere utilizzati per pulire un segnale debole o per pilotare un carico. In un simulatore a logica booleana, un buffer viene utilizzato principalmente per aumentare il ritardo di propagazione. I ricevitori logici e i transceiver permettono la comunicazione isolata tra bus dati.
