Rohm semiconductor's intelligent power modules, or IPMs, are made up of IGBTs, flywheel diodes, gate drivers, and bootstrap diodes. These energy-saving power devices are suitable driving circuits for IGBT devices and ICs, which have protection functionality. Some of the features of these IPMs include a three-phase DC-to-AC inverter, being rated to 600 volts and up to 30 amps, and integrating a variety of protection features, such as under-voltage lockout, short-circuit current protection, and thermal shutdown. Available in ceramic isolation packages, these IPMs offer 1500 volts-rms of voltage isolation and have a low thermal resistance. Given that these IPMs are intended to contribute high-efficiency and design-simplification to the application, ideal applications include air conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators.
