Then we add the Application layer. At the Application layer is where there are different Application Protocols. You can think of these application protocols as languages. If two devices try to communicate, and they are not using the same protocol or  language, they will not be successful. When many people think infrared, they think “Beaming”. That is when they select an Object to “beam” to another device. This technique actually uses IrObex, which stands for IR Object Exchange. In this case the characteristics of the “Object” (file, program, photo) are know before the object is transferred.
