About

XL Research is an electronics design firm specializing in custom hardware and software design of microcontroller-based control systems for consumer and industrial applications. Since 1978, XL has delivered designs used in such products as cordless telephones, experimental solar homes, high-speed printing machinery, industrial lighting controls, fire alarm systems and a multiple processor control system for a US prison.

XL is capable of handling your next product idea or custom control application from initial concept through first production prototype utilizing its experience in these areas:

  • Real-Time Microcontroller Software Design (C or Assembler)
    • Bare-metal or FreeRTOS
  • Single-Chip Microcontroller Hardware Design (PIC, dsPIC, others)
    • Full Microchip™ Family Support
    • PIC10, PIC12, PIC16, PIC18, dsPIC, PIC24, PIC32
    • Also Atmel, pSoC, 8051 Series, others
  • Schematic and PCB Design (Altium Designer)
  • Control Systems with USB, Ethernet, CAN-Bus & RS-485
  • Wireless Data Transmission (RF, IR, AC Power-Line)
  • Designs for Telephony, Lighting and Motion Controls
  • Designs for Industrial Controls and Smart Sensors
  • Analog and Digital Circuit Design

At XL's facility, PC-based engineering platforms are combined with Microchip™ emulators and debuggers and Altium Designer ECAD to provide a full range of design capabilities including schematic capture, PCB layout, hardware and firmware development and documentation support. On-site milling capabilities can also provide instant turnaround of prototype PCBs and front panels.
